“NTV+Sport” is the first HD Channel in Russia
On the December 20th, 2008 the audience of NTV Plus Sport were the first to see the significant event in our national broadcasting.
At 20:00 the HD channel started broadcasting through the “NTV+”. Being the serious integration company for already 10 years, the “Okno-TV” has demonstrated itself as a leader in coping with difficult tasks. The project is marked by forming non-typical equipment sets and includes new technical solutions.
The complex is equipped with VizRT Ardendo media asset management system. Automation system and feeds recording is performed on Harris ADC-100 solution in conjunction with Omneon Spectrum video servers. There are number of AVID Chrome editing suites were also integrated into workflow chain. Branding of the new HD channel was implemented with Miranda ImageStore devices. High performance on-line storage, long-term digital archive (tape library) were performed together with IBM. The system uses HD equipment from Thomson, Evertz and the Zirkon digital system of sound processing and mastering by Lawo. Leading technologies by Dolby, are allowing making Dolby 5.1 programs with further encoding into Dolby Digital. Crystal clear picture, reach full color and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound give a full participation effect.
The NTV Plus Sport broadcasting facility consists of 5 workplaces for playout operators, 2 – for ingest operators, 2 – for commentators, workplaces for an engineer, a sound producer and an administrator.
Nowadays test broadcasting is performed, “NTV+” is preparing to supply tuners, which will be able to receive HD video image. So, Russian audience will be able to enjoy splendid and entertaining sport events, feature films, shows and other fantastic TV-offers very soon. “NTV+Sport” HD broadcasting is a first step in developing HD television in Russia.
